These salt and pepper shakers were designed and made by me sometime in 1977 or 1978. Since the containers are made of brass and are totally opaque I decided to design them in a way that just by looking or by light touch one could tell if they needed a refill. So the salt shaker would not remain standing if there was not a minimal amount of salt in it. The pepper shaker would not move with ease from side to side if full. Their position on a table was left to the user to create his or hers own control of space. Reflections would play a part as well. To make these I utilized brass tubing which was available in a hardware store and had to cut it at a precise angle, thereafter soldering flat pieces of brass sheet to the ends. Each shaker had an internal lip soldered to one half to allow the other to slip over with some friction and stay on. The design and concept are COPYRIGHTED.
