What a beautiful vintage 18K gold watch from Gubelin company. This flip top bangle watch dates most likely to 1950s. It is made as a piece of jewelry hiding the watch dial under the top which flips up 90 degrees. This watch was mostly hand constructed and because of this reason, probably not that many were ever made. The width at the top is 16.28mm. The bracelet is set with 16 genuine round rubies. The 8 set on the flip top are 3mm each in diameter and all others are 2.3mm. Completely closed the bangle measures just over 2 inches across on the inside. Completely open it measures 2.8 inches across on the inside. The watch weighs 36.5 grams. The GUBELIN signed 17 jewels wind up movement is adjusted in 3 positions. Interestingly the case back is held in place by 2 screws. Not something seen often in those days. If you try to compare this watch to others from that era, please keep in mind that besides the weight of gold and gems, one needs to consider the amount of work and the craftsmanship involved.   Priced here at $8000.
