Offered here is an 18K gold and vitreous enamel bangle bracelet from Schlumberger Studios in France made for Tiffany & Co.
The bracelet is quite heavy and very well made with a hinge every 1/2 an inch or so. The bracelet will fit a 6.5 inch wrist circumference when closed. The inside diameter is 2 and 1/8th of an inch ( 53.8 mm) This bracelet weighs 127 grams and is 14 mm wide at the widest points. Many Tiffany Schlumberger enamel bracelets weigh only 88 grams. Those, from Tiffany & Co. will cost you $53,000.
The one here is 45% heavier and I am the only one offering it for sale anywhere on the Internet!! If you wanted to place a special order with Tiffany, you’d have to spend over $70000!! A couple have recently sold at Christies Auction for $81,250 each and to that price you would have to add the buyer’s commission. The green color you see here is a high temperature firing enamel. The enameling technique was perfected by French artisans hundreds of years ago.
This is a very time consuming process. The gold is covered with an enamel in powder form and fired in the kiln at a temperature over 1300 degrees F.
Schlumberger used PAILLONNE` process in which 24K gold foil was first laid on the 18K gold body of the bracelet where enamel was to be applied. This was done for more brilliance effect.
These bracelets were first made in late 1950s and were favorite of Jackie Kennedy and many other high society women.
You can find the information about it’s designer Jean Schlumberger on the Internet. He worked for many years at Tiffany’s designing many beautiful pieces while there. He also maintained a company in France.
I was not able to find this exact bracelet offered for sale in my search of the Internet. I found one with similar links design.
I believe this bracelet offered here is quite unique. A sketch of this link design with the leaves on the links is also illustrated in “The Jewels of Jean Schlumberger” book by Chantal Bizot.
The fact that you cannot see any other bracelets of this design on the auction sites points to it’s rarity and justifies a higher price. Priced here at $45,000 Text 702 526 8524 if looking to buy.
