Offered here is a classy shell cameo set in a 14K white gold frame with 14 old cut diamonds.
The broach measures 69.4 mm (2.73 inches) x 53.2 mm wide. The cameo itself is 57.2 mm by 43.3 mm.
It weighs 26 grams. This vintage piece is totally hand made with so many separate parts cut, shaped and soldered together that it would be too time consuming to count!!
The 4 flower part of the design were stamped and then soldered on top of the intricate white gold scrolls . All this was then soldered to the hand formed bezel around the cameo. This was done before the cameo was set in.
The cameo was carved out of a shell. It is portraying a young woman with a bird. The woman is adorned with a white gold choker set with 5 diamonds, with the largest being about 0.12 carats. The hair is adorned by a white gold hair piece set with 9 diamonds, with the largest being 0.07 carats.
The brooch has a hidden bale which can be extended out and use this piece as a pendant.
There is a 14K stamp on the locking part of the pin. The gold was tested with acid test and checks out as 14K.
This cameo dates probably to 1920s. One would have a hard time reproducing this piece nowadays for the price stated here. Not to mention where would one find the craftsmen capable of doing this. May be in Italy.
