Here is a rare and very collectible Elgin De Luxe “Doctor’s Watch”. This is a long rectangular watch. The dial was made much longer than the movement in order to have a much larger seconds area. For this reason the case had to be made longer as well. The larger seconds dial was especially useful to doctors and nurses when taking a pulse or in similar applications when an event had to be timed to the seconds. Notice that the winding crown is not in the center of the long side but directly in line with hands pinion. This watch is form 1940s. The dial had been professionally refinished. The 10K gold filled case shows some wear, please view all the pictures. There are very few of these on the market and to get a much better example you will have to pay a much higher price. 17 jewels movement with a recent service. Priced here at $850.
